BEGINNERS COURSE – Friday 10th May 2024

West Windsor Archers (WWA) will be running an archery Beginners Course on Friday evenings at Dedworth Middle School, Smiths Lane, Windsor, SL4 5PE, beginning Friday 10th May 2024. The course will comprise 4 Friday evening sessions (10th, 17th, 24th and 31st May) and is limited to TEN participants. All equipment will be provided by WWA, you need only bring your enthusiasm!

The course is open to adults and juniors of 14 years or older. Juniors between 14 and 16 years MUST be accompanied at all times by an adult (parent or guardian). Each session will start at 6 pm and run for around 2 hours (sometimes a little later).

The Beginners Course costs £90.00 per person – please use the Contact form on this website if you are interested in taking the course. We’ll send you an application form – once we receive your completed application we can reserve you a place.

PLEASE NOTE: Spring / Summer courses are held outside. Please be prepared for the vagaries of British weather! Winter months courses are held indoors at Eton-Wick sports hall. The sports hall has heating but it can still get chilly.

IMPORTANT: Clothing for archery should comprise layers and be snug-fitting so as to avoid tangling with the bowstring – it’s best to avoid hoodies, bulky jackets or sweatshirts or anything with baggy sleeves. Please get in contact if you have any questions.

West Windsor Archers (WWA) has fully qualified coaches, assistant coaches and Archery Leaders who make themselves available to run beginners courses several times each year for adults and juniors over 14 years of age. Courses take place during the summer evenings from 6pm at Dedworth Middle School, Smiths Lane, Windsor, SL4 5PE. During the winter months, courses run indoors at Eton Wick Road, Windsor, SL4 6LT in the sports hall behind the library.

All necessary equipment is provided. The courses last for 4 weeks, teaching the basics of safe shooting including:

  • Equipment setup
  • Range layout and range safety
  • Suitable warm up and cooldown exercises
  • Correct form and shot process
  • Archery scoring
  • Shooting etiquette
  • Competitive archery

Following a successful Beginners Course assessment, beginners are invited to join WWA as full members. Other archers e.g those returning to the sport, are required to pass an initial assessment and provide proof of either completion of an Archery-GB beginners course OR sufficient experience with shooting at another Archery-GB affiliated club before being invited to join.

The teaching doesn’t finish there however, the coaches and assistant coaches will continue to help and advise when you move across to the main club, ensuring that you receive as much on-going tuition and advice as you need.

If no beginners courses are listed above, please contact us using the details on the Contact page to register your interest. Course Fees (for the 2024 season) are £90.00 per person. Juniors between 14 and 16 years MUST be accompanied at all times by an adult (parent or guardian).

If you are finding it difficult to find a local club running Beginners Courses, you might try contacting an archery supplier such as Chiltern Archery or Quicks. They run regular courses at their own on-site archery ranges. The club can recommend Chiltern Archery as it is a supplier used by many of our club members, some of which shoot at their range on occasion. One of their courses would qualify and allow membership to West Windsor Archers.

In the meantime if there are any further questions we can help you with, please let us know using the Contact form. Sorry we cannot be of any more help at the moment.
